As discussed in class, Zappos has created an atmosphere that is attractive and encourages participation by its employees. The CEO, Tony Hsieh, has developed a structure where everyone in the organization is involved in the company. He has his own office amongst the other employee cubicles. He doesn't have an enormous office with a fancy desk with thousand dollar chairs. He gets paid less than some of the other employees that have no where near the amount of senority or experience in the organization. The office is covered with posters on the walls and streamers hanging from the ceiling. The type of environment that he has created is quite different than the typical corporate layouts where the executives have their own enormous offices while the other employees have a desk amongst the other employees. It's quite clear that Hsieh has created a environment that is attractive to employees and future applicants.

I think this Zappos business plan is a fantastic way to approach the business environment. It goes against the grain of the business norm but it makes employees feel like they are on an equal playing field with the boss. This causes them to enjoy their work environment more which intern makes them work harder towards the success of the company. - Zach Borgetti
ReplyDeleteTony Hsieh has created an environment that other organizations have began to take interest in. Facebook is attempting to re-create a portion of this atmosphere as illustrated by pictures on their career page.

This too is an example of the video I posted. Tony is a great leader who inspired action. He BELIEVES in what he is doing, and he found people who believe the same thing. He is a leader who is changing business and how it works. Facebook, Apple, Zappos, Google, and many others are changing how people interact and work. I think it is awesome. It's what I've always said and believed in my whole business career: "It's not the suits that make the company grow, it's the people IN the suits." These companies believe in people and their ability to innovate and work. Great companies. Overall, great posts guys!
ReplyDeleteTony has set a great example of how business owners and CEOs can have a very relaxed and creative workplace but still be a successful business. In the future I feel more business will be moving towards this management style.

Tony Hsieh has made Zappos one of the best companies to work for because he allows and even encourages his employees to think out of the box, be different and be creative. With this atmosphere it allows the employees to be creative and come up with new and innovate ideas. It takes away the stress that a lot of people take on at normal jobs.
